A quick piece on Mike Mignola's Lobster Johnson. I can't explain why I like this character so much, other than I was a huge fan of The Shadow growing up, and this guy hits all the same marks: The cold and singularly-driven persona, the network of associates helping to carry out his mission, the bizarre machinations of diabolical mad men. And, of course, because he has a goofy name like "Lobster Johnson" and Mignola portrayed him as such a bad ass. And it worked!
Plus, based on my Rocketeer fixation, I just enjoy Nazi-punching.
I did this to see how much time I could save myself jumping directly from non-repro blue line to inks to simple color. It's a pretty big undertaking to get me to do something simply. I'm trying to work on that.
Added to the TRDL-R3-WeeklyJam theme of "No Spandex," because spandex is not how LJ rolls.
I have to admit - the timing was purely coincidental. I finished the piece right before Thom announced the theme for the week. I just had an itch to draw Lobster Johnson.
