Splitsville by mcguan Splitsville by mcguan
This is the week that has many DC fans sharpening their pitchforks and lighting their torches. Among the many, many changes in DC's New 52 Reboot - de-agings, old characters returning, newer characters demoted, miracle healings for the crippled, pants/no pants, etc. - the Supermarriage of one Lois Lane and Clark Kent is no more.

Personally, I don't have a problem with that. If DC is going to wipe the slate clean (or at least "clean-ish") with this reboot, the Kent/Lane relationship will need to start over too. On the plus side, readers will get to witness the couple's inevitable courtship all over again.

Then again, I'm not a regular reader of the Super titles, so far be it for me to begrudge a fan their issues with getting invested in a couple of characters and their marriage, and have everything swept under the rug (Spider-Man readers nod their heads knowingly, and are ready to counsel their DC counterparts). I can appreciate both sides of the issue.

Now, as for Barbara Gordon being able to walk again...

But hey, comics. No one stays dead, married or in Arkham Asylum very long, right?

Anyway, I originally intended to submit this to the Covered blog, [link] but after re-reading their submissions guideline, they don't do straight parody there. And this is straight, not-so-subtle parody. (God I hope Jim Lee and Dan Didio have great senses of humor). The original cover to Superman's Girlfriend, Lois Lane #80 is by the great Curt Swan and can be seen here: [link]

All characters and logos belong to DC Comics.

Created with PITT Pens, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, and my desire to end my long running feud with Lois Lane (not really): [link]

Given how hard DC seems to be trying to belittle Lois' significance these days this'd be funnier if it weren't ringing so true.

Hahahaha! That's fantastic. I like how you have Dido & Lee poking through the tear, looking on with glee, with those idiotic smiles.

Loved the drawing... great tribute to the original Oskner cover (I have that issue in storage). But perhaps there should have been a caption re: Didio and Lee saying "This issues villains". The New 52 re-boot and the Spider-Man 'Last Day' series was a batch of writers and editors who are frustrated in THEIR marriages, but lacked the gonads to get out of their relationships, so they are living thru their characters. Hate the New 52 Superman and I'm still pissed with how Marvel, for the most part, ditched Mary Jane. But I'm saving a fortune by not buying the new crap.
