The Million Dollar Debut of Batgirl by mcguan The Million Dollar Debut of Batgirl by mcguan
I'm more-or-less on a dA hiatus at the moment while I work through some commissions and eagerly await the debut of my first child (due date: any day now-ish), but decided to upload this piece after seeing that the Repaneled blog was closing up shop this past Friday: [link] I've submitted two pieces there in the past, most recently my reworked Donna Troy splash page [link] and this is a piece I did this past spring but put on the back burner after I stumbled upon that Teen Titans panel.

The library scene is from Detective Comics #359, otherwise known as "The Million Dollar Debut of Batgirl" [link] and her librarian alter ego, Barbara Gordon. I paired my version with my other Batgirl drawing and logo and intended to upload it here on dA after I submitted it to the Repaneled blog, but obviously waited too long. The text comes from the original panel (with a slight tweaking).

Edited to add: The original panel was written by Gardner Fox, Penciled by Carmine Infantino and inked by Sid Greene. I forgot to add these credits in the initial post, but they ARE listed on the books (along with some other famous Bat Girls).

Created with PITT Pens and Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator CS 5.1. The fonts are Comicraft's Comicrazy [link] and Blambot's Antigrav [link]

Wow! This is a modern revamp of a classic moment. I really like how the desaturated colors emphasize how she feels her life as a librarian is dull and boring. I also like how her Batgirl costume actually has folds and wrinkles in it ( it's better because I know her outfit is homemade rather than being made of tight Kevlar like Batman's). I also noticed the names of the other Batgirl's as the author's of the books ;)

Thank you much! The names on the books was an after-the-initial-fact moment of inspiration. I'm glad when people catch those.
